My Expectations for German 110

My initial interest in taking the class was to reinforce my language acquisition of German. Like most others in our class, part of my background is German. For me, what is more is that I have a passion for languages (I am fluent in and taught Spanish) as well as their respective cultures. I also am a firm believer that becoming familiar with the cultures of the target language will increase understanding of the language. While I was in South Africa for a semester, I made many friends from Germany. I asked a lot of questions to learn more about what the country is like. Even now, I still stay in contact with these friends as they share more of their culture with me. One friend sends beautiful photos of Stuttgart and Christmas markets. I very much wanted to be there to experience it! I have even applied for a scholarship program to study in Germany through DAAD in hopes of being able to experience the language and culture, and to visit my new friends. I am also interested in exploring options to teach in Germany.

So, my interest and hopes for this class are to learn more about the history and culture of Germany to help strengthen my speaking abilities as well as prepare me for when an opportunity to travel to Germany arises. I am particularly interested in learning about music, dance, food, and schools in Germany. My expectation is that the class and assignments will be interactive and useful, and that I will be challenged to observe the German culture through an expanded worldview. Ich bin sehr aufgeregt!
